Protect underground sources of drinking water and other ground waters of the State.

• Implement the USEPA-delegated Class II (oil- and gas-related) Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program to ensure protection of Underground Sources of Drinking Water.
• Evaluate operator applications for approval to hydraulically fracture selected coal groups in coalbed methane wells to ensure compliance with the Board's ground-water protection rules.
• Evaluate oil and gas well construction and plugging proposals to ensure compliance with the Board's ground-water protection rules.
• Coordinate with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management regarding the State's UIC Program, as well as spills and leaks associated with oil and gas operations.
