GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS PROGRAM AT THE GEOLOGICAL SURVEY
OF ALABAMA
Geological hazards such as sinkholes, earthquakes, and
landslides are directly related to the nature and distribution of the rocks
underlying the state. Since the 1800s, GSA has mapped the distribution of
these rocks and their characteristics and can provide data, maps, and
reports related to the underlying geology and the geological hazards within
the state.

Dynamic Planet
Our earth is a dynamic place, with daily movements and
changes to the ground below and the surface we live on. These movements and
changes create geological hazards —phenomena that can impact safety of
people and property. Around Alabama,
populations can be at risk from a variety of geological hazards including
sinkholes, earthquakes, and landslides.
