Geochemical Lab

Situated on the 3rd floor of Walter B. Jones Hall, the Geochemical Laboratory is a fully equipped analytical laboratory for inorganic constituents of water, sediment, soil, rocks, or plant material. The laboratory is staffed by three geochemists with extensive experience in inorganic laboratory procedures, geochemical analyses, and field sampling. Using sophisticated analytical means, the laboratory is able to determine some metal concentrations into the parts per billion range or lower. The lab performs some organic analyses and serves as a clearinghouse for Survey staff to obtain needed analyses from other agencies or laboratories. The lab is equipped to determine bacteria levels in water using several techniques.
